Two riders. Five climbs. 131km. 4500m of positive ascent. All in our back yard in the Tarentaise, from Alberville to La Plagne. The more supporters we have, the more (positive) pressure we'll have to push through the pain and cross the finish line in La Plagne. No donation is too small. See you in the Alps!

L'Etape du Tour comes to the Tarentaise

I'm excited that Oscar and I will be participating in our first ever L'Etape du Tour next July 20th, and happy that we'll be raising money for Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque who bring young children with heart malformations to Europe for life saving and improving surgeries that would not be available to them otherwise. I figured I'm not getting any younger, and I'm not sure that Oscar will always have the time to fit this in future years, and the clincher was that in 2025 it's on "home territory" (from Alberville to La Plagne), so really I had no choice.

As they say, "it's not the heat, it's the humidity", or translated into road cycling speak, "it's not the distance (131km), it's the elevation (4500m of ascent)"...my preliminary goal is to stay with Oscar for at least the first climb, and a stretch goal would be to stay on his wheel until the top of the second climb at the Col des Saisies (1650m), and then of course to simply survive the final 19km climb (at an average 7.2%) up to the finish in La Plagne (2052m).  As my preparation advances next spring, I might risk posting some segment and total time aspirations...

I hope you'll support Oscar & me - any donation (even €1) is welcome: the more supporters we have the more motivation we will have to make it to the finish line. (I've heard it's scientifically proven in trials that large numbers of supporters can accelerate lactic acid removal in high intensity efforts!)

Trust your ride went well, Sean, even though Oscar couldn't be by your side--or, more likely, disappearing up ahead. Bravo for your participation in this worthy event!
